Florida Public Services Union Members Attend Jacksonville Inauguration

Florida Public Services Union members, Robin Kirkpatrick and Cheryl Lewis, represented SEIU at the inauguration of Jacksonville’s new mayor,  Alvin Brown. Robin and Cheryl joined other Jacksonville residents in welcoming Mayor Brown to office.

The election of Alvin Brown was historic on many fronts. Not only was Mr. Brown the first Democrat to be elected mayor of the City of Jacksonville in over 2 decades, but he was the first ever African American mayor in the cities history. Mayor Brown worked his way through college as a meat cutter at Winn Dixie supermarket. He ran a spirited campaign that built a coalition of community groups of all backgrounds and political leanings. Mayor Brown enters office with high hopes of turning around Jacksonville’s sagging economy.

Florida Public Services Union wishes Mayor Brown good luck, and we look forward to working with him in the future.
