Palm Beach School District Employees Overwhelmingly Ratify Insurance Proposal

On September 28th, the service employees of the Palm Beach County School District voted and unanimously approved a health insurance proposal that will take affect January 1, 2012.

After all the votes were cast, 777 district employees voted, with 522, or 67%, voting to approve the the proposal. 189 employees, or 24%, voted against the proposal.

This proposal, which was negotiated together with the teachers, police and secretaries union, will result in a small increase in health insurance premiums for employees. These increases will be roughly $12.50 per month for the most popular plans were much lower then the $90 originally proposed by the school district.

This proposal was also successful in saving health insurance coverage for part time workers. Part time district employees will be “grandfathered into the system and will not receive a premium increase.
