FPSU Members Help Secure Landmark Victory in Ohio

Last night unions and labor organizations in Ohio scored a huge victory when Ohio voters gave there stamp of approval to collective bargaining rights to public employee unions. This referendum, which over turns a key legislative goal for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, follows a similar assault on unions in Wisconsin earlier this year. Last night’s victory was a landmark victory for the labor movement, and a great sign that voters are starting to turn sour on the Tea Party agenda as the 2012 elections near. In 2011, states such as Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Virginia has all tried to restrict or abolish collective bargaining rights for public employees.

In a sign of solidarity for our brothers and sisters in Ohio, Florida Public Services Union sent members and staff to help out with the referendum election in Ohio. Members spent weeks in Ohio knocking doors, organizing voters and helping get-out-the-vote across Ohio. Congratulations to everyone who worked hard to protect the collective bargaining rights of our brothers and sisters in Ohio!
