SEIU FPSU Congratulates Angie Nixon on Historic Democratic U.S. Senate Primary Victory
Dues-paying SEIU FPSU member advances with a bold vision for working families across Florida
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — August 18, 2026 — The Service Employees International Union Florida Public Services Union (SEIU FPSU) congratulates Angie Nixon, a proud dues-paying member of SEIU FPSU, on her victory in the Democratic Primary for the United States Senate.
SEIU FPSU President Afifa Khaliq released the following statement:
“Tonight is a victory for working people across Florida. Angie Nixon’s win proves that when workers organize, volunteer, and stand together, we can overcome the influence of billionaires and special interests.
Angie Nixon understands the struggles of working families because she has lived them and stood alongside workers throughout her career. She is also a proud dues-paying member of SEIU FPSU, demonstrating her commitment to the labor movement not just in words, but through action.
Floridians are demanding a future where working people—not billionaires and corporate lobbyists—shape the direction of our state and our country. Families are working harder than ever while the cost of housing, childcare, healthcare, and everyday necessities continues to rise. Workers deserve leaders who will fight for policies that put people before profits.
This is Angie Nixon’s agenda for Florida: childcare for all, Medicare for All, affordable housing, unions for all, and good-paying union jobs. It’s a vision that puts working families first and ensures every Floridian has the opportunity to thrive. She also believes it’s time to hold billionaires and wealthy corporations accountable by making them pay their fair share—not leaving working people to carry the burden.
This campaign has been powered by workers, retirees, students, and everyday Floridians—not corporate PACs or billionaire donors. It has been built through conversations at the doorstep, phone calls between neighbors, and thousands of volunteers who believe our democracy should answer to the people.
But tonight is only the beginning. The stakes in November could not be higher. Working people must continue organizing, mobilizing, and voting for a future where every family has economic security, dignity on the job, and an opportunity to succeed.
SEIU FPSU is proud to stand with Angie Nixon as we continue building a Florida where workers come first. Together, we will fight for affordable housing, universal childcare, healthcare for all, stronger unions, family-sustaining union jobs, and an economy that works for everyone—not just the wealthy few.
The movement continues, and together we will keep fighting until every working family has the opportunity to thrive.”
