Our Current Collective Bargaining CLICK HERE

HCC Community,

The union would like to inform you all about the bargaining session that took place yesterday, 5/5/25. To be brief, we have proposed a 20% wage increase with retroactive pay from July 1, 2025 (if an agreement is not reached and ratified by June 30th, 2025). Please see our Notes from the 5/5 Session.

The next bargaining session is currently scheduled for 6/23/25 from 3pm to 5pm on the Ybor Campus, YSSB 307/8.

The union requested a bargaining session beginning at 5pm to allow for more workers to attend and show support. However, management made it clear that they are unwilling to accommodate this request. We also mentioned the idea of having a Zoom call open for those who wish to attend but are unable. Management also made it clear that they disapprove of this idea since the bargaining is held during business hours, but they are unwilling to accommodate a later schedule for the workers.

We would like to remind the workers at HCC that bargaining sessions are public events and can be attended by any and everybody. If you have any questions or would like to voice an opinion about the bargaining session times and locations, please contact a union board member or representative. We would love to hear your input!

Lastly, we will be scheduling meetings within the next several weeks to touch base with as many HCC workers as possible. Your feedback and participation is essential to a successful bargain. The union is nothing without the people it represents, and we encourage you all to take part in our collective action to demand dignity, respect, and fairness in the workplace.

In Solidarity,

HCC SEIU Union Board Members

OLD POSTS

Dear Colleagues:

After our two overwhelming election victories for the Professional and Supervisory Units we have sent in a request for dates to meet with management for our annual wage bargaining. We have yet to receive dates from Management.
First, if you are receiving this email, you are in a Union-covered job position. Each year we bargain for wages. The years we bargain exclusively on wages, and not the full agreement are called “Wage Bargaining Re-Openers.” This is one of those years.
As your bargaining team we are asking you to please complete our Bargaining Survey as a way to help us prepare and understand your priorities.
We appreciate the few minutes it will take to fill out the survey, and we will see you at College Day tomorrow!

OLD POSTS

Workers at HCC have overwhelmingly voted to approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for premium relief this December.

Your new SEIU Board worked to address the double-premium issue and successfully secured reimbursements from the College for the state’s December medical, dental, vision, and supplemental premiums.

We’re building a list of priorities, including salary and non-financial matters, for 2025 negotiations. Your input is essential, so we’ll survey the union and union-eligible employees soon. As a new five-member Board, we’re ready to represent you, whether negotiating pay, improving conditions, or in-person at any of your meetings addressing serious workplace issues.

However, we need your membership to succeed. To keep our union, we require 60% membership; to achieve real change, we aim for 70%+. Why not join today?

Common objections and responses:

1. “It’s too expensive ($35/month).”
You gain guaranteed representation for $1.16 daily—less than a cup of coffee, a McDonald’s hamburger, or a candy bar. Most employees don’t need help often, but when they do, non-members miss out. Why take the risk?

2. “I’ll wait to see what the union does first.”
With low membership, results are limited. HR listens to strength in numbers. By joining, you empower us to fight for better pay and conditions.

3. “The College gives us 3% anyway.”
That 3% happens because of our negotiations. Faculty lock in better increases and long-term contracts with their higher (over 72%!) membership rates. Without us, do you trust the College to offer increases voluntarily?

We’re here to make things better. The premium reimbursement happened because we pursued it—it wasn’t offered. Imagine what more we could achieve together. Join us for only $1.16 a day and help us steer our future and see what we can accomplish!

Sign up today and help us build a stronger future!
