Important Changes coming to AESOP Bylaws
Dear Members,
There are important changes to SEIU Florida Public Services Union’s / AESOP Constitution and Bylaws to ensure we are keeping up with the growing needs of our expanding Union. Voting is open to AESOP/FPSU’s Members in Good Standing only.
Ballot Question: Changes in AESOP Bylaws – The proposed amendments in AESOP Bylaws are to make sure that all AESOP members have the same rights as all other FPSU members and are governed in a more transparent and accountable fashion. These proposed changes are related to Board governance, Elections, membership, dues, and removing all the language that is covered under FPSU’s Constitution and Bylaws. The proposed changes will also ensure that AESOP Board elections and member convention is under the same schedule as FPSU.
Ballot Question: The proposed amendments are mainly related to Article X (Revenue). These changes are mainly related to ensuring that the Union has alternative and efficient means of dues collection in case employers stop deducting the dues through paycheck as a result of the changes in the laws. These changes will give us the ability to strengthen the union and keep on protecting our rights and contracts. The Union is proposing a flat rate of 35 dollars. For AESOP members this flat rate dues structure will be implemented with gradual annual increases in a total of five years.
Changes to the Constitution and Bylaws are shown on the enclosed proposed amendments in red. Deletions of language are shown as struck out and additions of language are shown as underlined. See the proposed changes here for AESOP and here for FPSU
The ballots will need to be returned by 5:00pm on May 25th (Thursday). Sample Ballot Here
