A special report from SEIU Florida Public Services Union (FPSU)

While Boca Raton is known for its luxury beachfront properties, upscale shopping, and millionaire lifestyles, the workers who keep this city running are being left behind.

This week, we are proud to release our Boca Raton Blue-Collar Workers Narrative Report: a deep dive into the real experiences of sanitation workers, park crews, utility techs, custodians, life guards, ocean rescue and others who do the hard work that keeps Boca clean, safe, and functional.

No more hiding the truth.
No more ignoring those who build and care for this city.

The Two Faces of Boca Raton

This report lays bare a painful contradiction:

  • Boca Raton ranks as one of Florida’s wealthiest cities, with a median income nearing $100,000 and average home prices above $600,000.

  • Yet the city’s own workers can’t afford to live in the very place they serve.

“I’ve been here almost 20 years and still can’t afford rent in Boca.”
“We’re hauling trash in the heat with no recognition while others get bonuses.”

What’s Inside the Report?

Firsthand stories from workers who face low pay, poor treatment, and long commutes
Survey data showing over 90% of workers want higher wages and 75% are considering leaving
Worker demands for fair pay, respect, benefits, and bonus equity

This isn’t just about dollars. It’s about dignity. It’s about who gets seen and valued — and who doesn’t.
