In a stunning move the St Petersburg College Board of Trustees voted today in defiance of their own administration to oppose the collective bargaining agreement backed resoundingly by adjuncts in December. After invoking the memory of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, Deveron Gibbons urged fellow board members to vote against union rights for instructors who had already reached agreement with the college’s administration last year.
This unprecedented move by the board means that our contract, and all the rights adjuncts have bargained for over these years of organizing, could be forced back into negotiations or delayed for up to 90 days by board members who claim they have not had adequate time to review the agreement. This is unacceptable and we are calling on all SPC faculty, SEIU union members and our community allies to take a stand with our adjuncts. Click here to send a message to the Board of Trustees and tell them to pass our contract now!
